Full Ground Floor Transformation in Impington

The Brief

The owners of this Impington home wanted to completely rethink their ground floor. The existing layout was a series of separate, enclosed rooms that felt disconnected and didn't reflect how the family actually lived. The goal was to open everything up, create a proper kitchen and dining space at the heart of the home, and improve the overall comfort and efficiency of the house at the same time.

What We Did

Multiple structural walls were removed across the ground floor to create a single open-plan kitchen and dining space. This was a significant structural undertaking, requiring careful planning to make sure the integrity of the house was maintained while achieving the open, flowing layout the clients were after.

Alongside the layout changes, the project included a full energy efficiency upgrade. External insulation was added to improve the thermal performance of the building, and the existing heating system was replaced with a modern heat pump paired with underfloor heating throughout the ground floor, providing even, efficient warmth without the need for radiators.

The Result

The transformation is striking. What was once a fragmented, compartmentalised ground floor is now a bright, generous open-plan space anchored by a stunning kitchen. Dark shaker cabinetry, a large central island with white worktop, herringbone oak flooring, and brass pendant lighting give the space a considered, high-end finish. Skylights and full-width sliding doors to the garden flood the room with natural light and blur the boundary between inside and out.

Beyond how it looks, the home now performs significantly better, with lower running costs and a more consistent, comfortable temperature throughout.
