New Owners, New Vision

Joe and Emily were the proud new owners of a home in Brighton with beautiful views of the South Downs. However, the layout felt tight and clunky, the kitchen was dated, and the bathroom was too small. The couple knew the home had loads of potential, but they needed help to make their dreams a reality.

The couple contacted their local Refresh Consultants Tracy and Roger Kinsman to seek some expert advice, discuss ideas, and learn more about what Refresh could offer them. Tracy and Roger listened to the challenges Joe and Emily were facing. The kitchen lacked storage space – not ideal for this foodie couple! – and it was separated from the dining and living rooms by an odd corridor. The bathroom was a very tight squeeze with a separate WC, and overall, the décor was dated, and the living areas lacked natural light.

Confident they could transform the home, Tracy and Roger explained that they provided a complete end-to-end project management service using the proven Refresh system. Every detail of the renovation would be taken care of, and they would deliver outstanding results on time and on budget. Joe and Emily were happy to move forward with their expert managers at the helm.

Designing and Refining the Right Concept

Initially, Joe and Emily were still deciding exactly what they wanted to achieve, so the concept and feasibility stage was important for exploring different options, identifying priorities, and establishing a clear scope for their project. With Tracy and Roger’s support, they were empowered to make the right choices for their lifestyle and future needs, and decided to increase their budget so that they could achieve their goals for their new family space.

Tracy and Roger’s design team delivered a stunning concept that would provide a functional and modern living space on the main floor of the home. To achieve this, a wall would be removed to allow for open plan living, a new bathroom would be built, contemporary fixtures and finishes including statement flooring and tile would be installed, and the design would focus on maximising natural light.

Construction Begins

With detailed working plans and an agreed budget in place, the exciting transformation of Joe and Emily’s home could begin. The old bathroom, kitchen, and flooring were removed, and construction started to open the spaces and create the open flow they wanted.

The renovation required a host of professionals, including painters, electricians, flooring specialists, carpenters, glaziers, and more. Tracy and Roger pulled together a fantastic team by utilising their existing network of local tradespeople. Having a number of different people working onsite can get overwhelming for homeowners, but Joe and Emily knew that Tracy and Roger were their single point of contact for any queries or issues, and communication was never a problem.

A Complete Transformation

In just a few short months, Joe and Emily’s home was completely transformed. The confused layout and dated décor are gone: now the spaces are light, bright, and contemporary with a fabulous open plan layout. The kitchen is effortlessly chic in off-white and muted olive, with a statement herringbone floor design carrying through to the living and dining areas. A large floor to ceiling window was installed to capture the panoramic view and flood the space in natural light, and hidden storage allows for all the cooking gadgets. The height of the kitchen cabinetry was also customised for Joe and Emily, who run tall!

In the bathroom, vertical stacked tiling in the walk-in shower elevates the space and gives the room depth. The rest of the room was also tiled, resulting in clean contemporary lines and a bright and open feel. Pushing a wall out and combining the bathroom with the WC allowed space for a modern, free-standing bath, and the once unappealing and cramped room is no more.

Final Thoughts

Tracy and Roger delivered a stunning, contemporary renovation of the original home. By engaging with Joe and Emily to help them identify what they really wanted to achieve from their renovation, they were able to define a clear goal and scope for the project and then prioritise the budget where it would have the most impact. The results are outstanding, and Tracy and Roger love the final look.

“There is a calm warmth throughout the home, and so many beautiful touches such as the stacked tiling and custom flooring. The spaces are bright, modern, and open and a beautiful family home.”
