Remodelling specialist Chris Kuhr installed bespoke cabinets to this ranch home's kitchen and laundry rooms.
Eric & Svetlana own a ranch type home in Sherwood, Washington County, and were looking to add some kitchen cabinets and create a pantry in their existing kitchen. They contacted Refresh renovations and remodeling specialist Chris Kuhr, who figured out exactly what they wanted in their initial consultation, i.e. to match the style as well as stain color of their existing cabinetry. Additionally, they also wanted to add cabinets and a countertop to their laundry room.
“The installation went without a hitch and was completed in just one day,” reveals Chris. “It was the cabinets that took 3 weeks to build.”
“Although this was a very small project, involving the installation of new pantry cabinets, a microwave cabinet, cabinets in the laundry room, and countertops, we had some minor issues on site,” explains Chris, “where the cabinets did not follow exactly as the plans and some corrections were needed on a couple of doors and a drawer. Additionally, the crown molding joinery was not ideal and the stain on one of the doors needed some corrections. Due to this, we needed two additional visits to complete the final installation.” Even taking this into account, the final cost was significantly lower than the initial estimate. This is thanks to the Refresh process, which ensures sufficient planning is done prior to beginning building, making sure there are no budget blowouts.
In the laundry room, Chris and his team framed out and installed a new quartz countertop, as well as a new set of cabinets. Meanwhile, the kitchen remodel included the installation of two pantry cabinets and one microwave cabinet.
During the project, Chris managed several tradespeople including an electrician, a plumber, as well as a cabinet builder. In addition to the installation of the cabinets and the countertops, the team had to complete minor electrical work, as well as some painting and decorating to ensure the old and the new cabinets were indistinguishable, perfectly blending into one another.
“The biggest challenge was getting a good match on the stain for the oak cabinetry,” explains Chris. “As these were completely custom cabinets, it took 21 attempts to get the precise stain color that matched!”
When asked about the final thoughts, Chris says “It really looks like the new cabinets were installed with the rest of the existing cabinetry.” Being exactly what the client’s initial brief asked for, this renovation project was most definitely a success!
