Before After

Changing Things Up

Tucked away in Titirangi, this 1920s bungalow is full of character. But despite its charm, the interiors had aged poorly over the years. It was ready for renovation.
Before settling into the bungalow (which she’d recently acquired via house swap with her mother), Rebekah wanted to upgrade the interiors. Functional aspects, like insulation and heating systems, needed upgrading, just as stylistic fixtures required updating.
To get the project started, Rebekah reached out to her local Renovation Specialist, Dominic Hollands, with whom she shared her initial ideas. Alongside the essential upgrades, she wanted to open up the rooms and create a more natural flow.
Ultimately, the bungalow was to be upgraded for modern living while accentuating its original character. Getting the project underway, Dominic introduced Rebekah to Troy Enderby, who became the project manager and arranged everything from design to construction to ensure the eclectic vision came to life.

Construction Timeline and Renovation Cost

In the early stages, Troy found issues with the bungalow’s existing structure. The timber framing was not meeting code requirement and needed structural changes.
Troy smoothly managed this obstacle and arranged for the project’s architect and engineer to make the necessary design adjustments and applications to the council. While it resulted in additional time and cost, Troy ensured the situation was resolved urgently to reduce the effect on the construction program. From start to finish, the build timeline took three months.
As for the project cost, the homeowners made a couple of design changes to keep costs within their desired budget. In total, this renovation came in at $120,000.

The Kitchen: Antique Style, Modern Functionality

The kitchen that was once cramped, dark, and rather outdated has undergone a complete upgrade, repositioning the room as the heart of the home.
Not only have the cabinets, benchtop, and appliances been modernised, but the kitchen has also been completed refreshed with an oceanic colour scheme. Industrial-style pendant lighting, brushed gold fittings, and copper tiling trim bring a brilliant vintage feel to the otherwise contemporary space and pair beautifully with the red-toned ceiling beams.
In all, the kitchen renovation has re-established the space for modern living while incorporating elements with an antique style that do great service to tying the house’s original character in with the contemporary improvements.

An Exquisite Master Suite

Rebekah wanted the master suite to become more enjoyable - a relaxing place to retreat. Choosing to put work into the wardrobe and ensuite, she wanted the spaces completely upgraded and replenished with stylish interiors.
The results are exceptional. The wardrobe has been fitted with modern timber shelving and drawers, providing ample storage space. And as for the ensuite, it’s arguably become the star of the home.
It’s eclectic, fascinating, and bright. Featuring a large walk-in shower, double basin vanity, and two circular wall-mounted mirrors, the new ensuite has beautiful modern facilities with plenty of storage space.
Worth noting is the use of organic shapes. It’s seen in the round mirrors, bathroom basins, hand towel holder, dual shower heads, and mosaic copper tiling. Mimicking shapes found in nature, the soft edges of the bathware create a calming environment in the ensuite.

A Fresh Laundry with Superb Storage

The old laundry lacked storage space and felt cluttered with its mismatched wall paint, terrazzo-look flooring, and an extendable drying rack fixed above the appliances.
Now, the laundry looks completely different with a minimalist design and simple colour palette. Featuring plentiful cabinetry, a beautiful benchtop, and white painted walls, the renovated space is much more inviting and user-friendly.
Finer details from the kitchen and master ensuite have also been used to keep the laundry within the home’s style. These elements include the brushed gold fittings, textured subway tiling, and ornately patterned flooring.

Finishing Improvements

Great attention was paid to both functionality and design throughout the bungalow to ensure necessary upgrades were made to modernise the property while retaining its character.
These improvements included installing a ducted heat pump system, building bench seating below windows to establish a sunlit nook, and creating feature walls to amp up the character. Together, these thoughtful additions were the perfect finishing touches for Rebekah’s home.

A Beautiful Place to Call Home

After a thorough renovation, this bungalow has been replenished with modern facilities and an eclectic design that fantastically draws out its original character.
Troy and his renovation team worked attentively to ensure Rebekah’s vision came to life. Using premium building materials from Placemakers, Mitre10, GIB, Resene, and SWP Interiors, the bungalow has transformed into a very extraordinary place.
Rebekah is thrilled with the renovation results. But among the improvements, she is particularly pleased with her new ensuite, which Troy executed perfectly to reflect her vision.
