With winter in full force, many households around the country wake up to condensation on their windows.
Condensation can be a telltale sign there is too much humidity in your home. As a result, when the humid air gets in contact with cold surfaces, like windows, it creates small water droplets – condensation.
While condensation itself is not aproblem, it can lead to more severe issues if you do not treat it appropriately.
As humidity provides the ideal breeding ground for mould and mildew, when left to grow in large quantities, these can cause serious health issues as well as significant damages to your home and interiors.
If you see a lot of condensation in your home and worry about the damage it could cause, get in touch with a DVS Home Ventilation expert to request a free home consultation. DVS can help you get to the bottom of your problem.
A DVS Home Ventilation System works to control moisture and condensation in your home, continuously replacing moisture-laden, stale air, with fresher, drier air. In other words, DVS is the art of letting your home breathe -fresh air in, stale air out.
In winter, good air circulation and home heating are essential for maintaining air quality. A DVS Home Ventilation System removes the excess damp, moisture-filled air and improves the overall air quality inside the house, making it much healthier for you and your family. And, once it’s installed, a DVS ventilation system costs from just eight cents a day to run, making it a good investment for not only the well-being of your family, but also the value of your home.

Three ways to reduce water vapour in your home:

1. Dry clothes outside

While it’s tempting to dry clothes inside in winter, where possible, it’s preferable to dry them outside to prevent excess moisture from building up in your property. If that’s not an option, try to dry them in the bathroom with the door closed and the extractor fans on.

2. Use lids when cooking

When cooking, ensure you use a lidon your pans, alongside rangehood,to avoid creating moisture from the water boiling.

3. Close your bathroom door when taking a shower

Most bathrooms experience a sudden increase in water vapour during a warm shower, and closing the door prevents moisture from travelling from your bathroom to other rooms of your home. Once the steam clears off, we recommend opening your bathroom door and letting the bathroom extractor fan run for a little while to enhance airflow in your bathroom and achieve the best results possible in this particularly damp environment.
