A stylish kitchen renovation that wouldn’t be out of place on a celebrity chef’s television show
This kitchen renovation wouldn’t be out of place on a celebrity chef’s television show – and it certainly exceeded its homeowner’s expectations! This prosperous property project involved a complete refurbishment of an existing kitchen and dining room as well as laying new flooring throughout and in to the entrance hallway of the home.
Knowing they needed the experts, the homeowners called Refresh Renovations and worked with a dedicated Project Consultant to oversee and manage the development from start to finish, taking care of every detail.
An Unexpected Challenge
The first step in the refurbishment was to lift the existing floor covering ready for replacement. However, what the team found was a dire situation: the subflooring had entirely rotted through and would be unable to safely support a new floor. Liaising immediately with the homeowners, contractors and all involved parties, the Refresh Renovations Project Consultant hashed out a change of plan in order to fix the problem while minimising project disruption and not adding too much time to the original target date for completion.
Avoiding the all-too-typical default building decision of many to hire the first possible contractor to fix the problem, Refresh Renovations stuck to their list of dedicated and reputable contacts to ensure that only a flooring specialist with sufficient experience would take on the task. Once hired, they set about to completely remove the existing subflooring and cleared out the whole area to a 30cm depth. Then, a new base layer, screed and insulation base layers were installed before a new, secure and safe, floor covering was laid. Thanks to the organisation of the Refresh Renovations Project Consultant, the minimum possible time was added to the project timeline and the homeowners were suitably impressed with the high quality of the work completed. Despite certainly being a big and very unexpected event, the challenge was overcome and the work continued.
Incorporating Technology into Kitchen Design
Not ones for basic or country chic kitchen design, the homeowners were keen to have the highest tech kitchen solutions available. The kitchen appliances were supplied by Bosch and all came from the latest in their cookware ranges. A double oven was stacked vertically, and five-ring hob fitting under a large cooking hood.
Two large screens were fitted into the kitchen for television and computer use: one over the hob to the front of the fan hood, and one wall-mounted. Both are linked so can either display the same visuals or differing, depending on the preference of the homeowners.
Spacious Storage and Wide Worktops
The kitchen itself, entirely torn out and refitted, included extra large worktops for plentiful cooking space. Storage cupboards and other options were put in all available spaces to store away utensils, cookware and smaller appliances, with the homeowners choosing to coordinate other larger appliances with the rest of the kitchen fittings.
Keen wine collectors (and drinkers!), the homeowners were also eager to include wine storage in the kitchen. Along a sideboard on an otherwise unused wall, a five-shelf wine fridge for white, roses and sparkling wines was installed, bordered either side by ten-slot wine racks for ambient bottle storage. Cupboards either side of the wine racks provide further storage at just the swing of a door – ideal for the big Christmas shop delivery of drinks and for other non-wine beverage choices.
Light and Bright Skylight Installation
The new kitchen benefits from a light and modern colour scheme, contrasting with its medium-hued wooden floor to open the space colour-wise – and overlooking a rural setting, its windows further introduce natural light to the space. The installation of two large skylights to the kitchen, directly in the middle of the ceiling and above the floor provides further lighting and with spotlights installed around them, gives a beautiful illumination aesthetic when the sun goes down while still giving enough lighting for the kitchen to be used practically.
Skylights can be a large job to install, but the Refresh Renovations team are well versed in their construction in properties of all types. In this case, these were included easily as part of the development plan and completed in the minimum time possible thanks to the smart planning and efficient time management of the Refresh Renovations Project Consultant. Even with a large ceiling beam close to the new window space, the team were able to create skylights with only nominal disruption.
Modern, yet Timeless Design
The neutral colour palette used as a base throughout the kitchen is currently very chic but will also stand the test of time no matter what interior design trends come in and out of fashion in the future. Although the homeowners in this kitchen won’t be looking to do so any time soon, the cupboards and fixtures can be easily repainted in new shades as desired and the flooring and all surfaces remain wipe-clean for easy maintenance – whatever the mess the keen (or perhaps reluctant!) cooks in the kitchen create.
Sticking to clean lines and understated fixtures and fittings allow for the homeowners to furnish the worktops and spaces however they like. Plenty of storage space means things can be stored away or left out, dependent on desired aesthetics and practical requirements. Finishes are clean, bright and smart without seeming too formal and without the need for specialist cleaning products.
Kitchen refurbishments need not just mean pulling your existing cupboards off the walls and replacing them with newer ones – the results can be much more impressive if managed by the experts! Refresh Renovations offer an end-to-end property project management service that means not only will your new fixtures, fittings and appliances be installed to an unrivalled high standard, but also too will any issues (such as rotten flooring) be resolved and overcome quickly and without fuss.
